An Italico is someone who loves, appreciates and is fascinated by Italy. The Italico does not necessarily have a passport or an Italian blood tie, he can live in Italy or in any other part of the globe.
The way of life and the commonality of values is the glue that unites Italici scattered throughout the world and this can become a formidable soft powerof the Belpaese (beautiful country). The reference is to that extraordinary and unique mix of culture, taste, style, which gives life to the refined art of the Italian way of life.
The category of “Italico” and “Italica civilization” are the content of a “citizenship” to be designed, recognized and made known to the general public. The exhortation Svegliamoci! by Piero Bassetti (Svegliamoci italici, Piero Bassetti, Marsilio 2015) should be interpreted in this light.
The mission of the Association Svegliamoci italici is to create the community of Italici, to train and inform civil societies, at a transnational level, about the “Italica culture” in the broadest sense and to network the subjects that represent it.
The target of the Association is represented by the 250/300 millions of Italici scattered in the world and potential participants aware (and not) of the Italica Community.
